MINISTER of tourism and sports, Portia Simpson Miller Wednesday signed a $22-million contract awarded to Exterior III Construction Company for the building of a craft village in Port Antonio.
"The village will contain 45 craft shops a bar and food court, an amphitheatre, presentation area for entertainment, support services, administrative offices, parking area for tour buses and a boardwalk which will be partially covered," Simpson Miller said.
"The craft village belongs to Portland and the people must see that it is kept properly and ensure that nothing is done to destroy any area," she added.
According to the contractor, Rod Foreman, work on the village should begin in January and is expected to last for six months before completion.
The village will be built on Port Antonio's east harbour and is expected to enhance that town's port facilities which will include a new marina being built to accommodate mega yachts.
