REGION Three of the ruling People's National Party (PNP) will tomorrow celebrate its fifth Michael Manley Day at the Medallion Hall Hotel in Kingston.
This year, the Paul Burke-led group will be recollecting the 1969 PNP presidential contest between Michael Manley and Vivian Blake, a contest which was keenly fought and which Manley won after the withdrawal of David Coore who had been an earlier contestant.
The presenters will include David Coore, a former deputy prime minister; Harry Douglas, who campaigned in that election and Michael Burke, a political historian.
The region has been celebrating Michael Manley Day since 1998, the year in which he passed on, and speakers on these occasions have included Maxine Henry-Wilson, Sheldon McDonald, Heather Robinson, Hartley Neita and Dr D K Duncan.
The PNP Region Three said Michael Manley Day was instituted not only to remember Manley's political legacy, but also to have it understood and appreciated, particularly by young members within the party and the public in general.
