BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth -- People's National Party (PNP) delegates in the Black River Division of South West St Elizabeth on Saturday selected 28-year-old Kern Spencer to run in the upcoming local government elections.
Spencer, executive assistant to member of parliament Donald Buchanan, had a comfortable 32 to six vote win over teacher and fellow NEC member, Mordant Mitchell.
The voting, which took place at the New Town Community Centre, went smoothly despite a heated exchange between supporters of both contestants.
When the results came in, Mitchell was statesman-like in defeat as he congratulated Spencer on his victory and called for unity among supporters.
