PATRICK Roberts, the People's National Party candidate for West Central St Andrew was duly nominated yesterday morning and had left the nomination centre at 65 Waltham Park Road.

Then about one-and-a-half hours after he left, an independent candidate named Patrick Roberts, a painter, turned up at the centre with nomination papers. He was accompanied by a group of people wearing green shirts.

Lloyd Samuels, who was also interested in contesting the seat as an independent, however, withdrew at the last minute, citing death threat on his life.

The two other candidates nominated were Andrew Holness, the incumbent from the Jamaica Labour Party and Olympic Gardens business woman, Lilian James of the National Democratic Movement.
