COMMUNITIES
Through programmes like Jamaica Social Investment Fund and Lift Up Jamaica , the face of our communities is being changed and the quality of life of our citizens improved.
- Thousands of young people are being employed and trained, while providing vital community infrastructure to improve the quality of life at the local level.
JSIF has expended $1.2 billion on 282 projects throughout the country, including:
- Social infrastructure
- Schools
- Homes for children, the aged and the disabled
- Inner-city upliftment
- Feeder roads and
- Water supply.
- Lift Up Jamaica has implemented over 300 projects in:
- Town upgrading
- River training
- Forestry
- Repairs to schools and community centres
- Sidewalk building and
- the Zinc Fence Replacement Programme in inner-city communities.
- The Social Development Commission (SDC) is now coordinating capacity building for 5,190 Community-Based Organisations islandwide.
- In collaboration with the Sports Development Foundation , the Social Development Commission is expanding opportunities for training and competition in sports.
