SOCIAL SECURITY
  • Reduction in number of persons who are below the poverty line
  • Increased National Minimum Wage from $800 to $1,200 per week
  • Increase in all categories of National Insurance benefits by an average of 33.3%
  • Sustained growth in National Insurance Fund to $16 billion, an increase of approximately 100% since 1998
  • Ministry offices established in St. James, Westmoreland and Manchester to provide more efficient and customer-friendly service
  • Project to assist students from inner-city schools with fees and uniforms
  • Loans and grants for income generating projects under Skills 2000, which targets Food Stamp beneficiaries
  • Improvement of conditions for the payment of National Insurance, Food Stamps and other Social Security Benefits
