RGD takes service to the streets today |
Jamaica Observer Monday, December 02, 2002 |
The Registrar General's Department (RGD) will today start operating a mobile unit for the convenience of Jamaicans.
Fifteen representatives of the RGD will be at the Springs Plaza on Constant Spring Road and the Super Centre on the Washington Boulevard, respectively, the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) News said.
"Wherever you are in Jamaica, we are coming to serve you," Dawn Douglas, deputy chief executive officer and director of operations at the RGD, told JIS News.
She said that the new unit would be "taking applications and satisfying them and also getting them back to customers in the most convenient way possible".
By replicating itself on wheels, Douglas said the RGD was on a mission to put the customer first in all matters. She explained that the thrust was part of the corporate strategy of the RGD to make the department "customer centric", by "taking the service to the street".
Douglas said that the RGD expected to receive at least 500 applications through its new unit.
To keep persons abreast of the activities of the Customer Mobile Unit, Douglas said that the RGD would provide information through the various media houses, as well as distribute flyers in communities.
She advised that customers accessing the Customer Mobile Unit should have all information on hand, including either a contact number or e-mail address, so that the RGD could get in touch with them in case they had questions about the application.
Most methods of payment for applications will be accepted, and depending on location, debit and credit cards will be accepted.
