PM, Seaga to sign off on crime report

A meeting between Prime Minister PJ Patterson and Opposition Leader Edward Seaga is being arranged to sign off on the recommendations of the bi-partisan committee on crime and violence, Jamaica House said yesterday.

The committee was set up when the two leaders met at Vale Royal last August, following an outcry from the society for something to be done to effectively address the crime problem.

Patterson, according to the Jamaica House statement, wrote to Seaga proposing that the meeting be set for this month in an effort to agree on those matters that require their concurrence.

The meeting is to include members of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica and is also expected to consider a report relating to the appointment of a political ombudsman and a Code of Political Conduct.
