CABINET TO FOCUS ON CRIME & VIOLENCE NEXT WEEK

KINGSTON, Jan. 8 (JIS)

Next week’s Cabinet meeting will be dedicated to a full review and discussion on the situation regarding crime and violence in the country.

Information Minister, Colin Campbell reported that over the weekend, the Prime Minister began a review of the present situation with a full discussion with the Minister of National Security and his team.

“All the issues, including a report by the joint task force with representation from the Government, Opposition and the private sector will be looked at next week and the relevant Cabinet decisions taken,” he said during yesterday’s (January 7) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

He noted that during the course of this week, the Prime Minister would continue to receive reports and make preparations in anticipation of next week’s Cabinet deliberations.

“He (the Prime Minister) has also received communication from the Leader of the Opposition regarding outstanding issues in the report and has asked the Attorney-General and the Minister of Justice team to meet with an Opposition team to hear and settle those issues prior to next Monday’s meeting,” Minister Campbell added.
