Began process of ending Cable and Wireless' monopoly and move to full liberalisation by 2002:

-  two new cellular licences sold for $3.9 billion

  • C i t i zens benefiting from range of value-add communication services
      
  • 217,000 new telephone lines to be installed by end of 2003
      
  • Rapid growth in use of Internet technology
    - Internet kiosks in Post Offices
      
  • The Post Offices are being modernised and commercialised for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
