URBAN DEVELOPMENT
The Urban Development Corporation has aggressively pursued its mandate to "make development happen:"
- Refurbished and upgraded Dunns River Falls
- Acquired and commenced upgrading of Green Grotto Caves, to make it into a world-class tourist attraction
- Completed East Kingston Coast road to reduce traffic congestion and provide scenic entrance to the city of Kingston
- In partnership with the NHT, completed 1,156-unit Manley Meadows Housing Scheme
- Commenced work on Spanish Town Historic District , including refurbishing of the Rodney Memorial Building
- Prepared development plan for South East Coast, to include 350-room nature-based hotel
- Upgraded lighting and other infrastru c t u re of National Stadium
- Construction of new multi-media facility at Edna Manley College of the Visual Arts
- Commenced work on restoration of Old Court House at Port Maria Civic Centre
- Comprehensive Rural Township Development Programme including 124 miles of roadways, rehabilitation of 35 schools, three bus terminals and a development road in Ocho Rios
- Constructed eleven (11) primary schools in Kingston and St. Catherine
- Completed Ocho Rios transportation centre and sewage treatment facility
- Created sub-division lots for commercial ventures and light manufacturing in Portmore
